Der in Venedig lehrende deutsche Philosoph Wolfgang Scheppe widmet sich in dieser visuellen Studie der Untersuchung der Mittel und Maßstäbe von Repräsentation, um am Beispiel Venedigs herauszufinden, wie Bildarchive der Stadt ein Verständnis ihres gesellschaftlichen Charakters ermöglichen. Mit der konzeptuellen Arbeit Done.Book untersucht er zwei obsessive Bestrebungen, Venedig zu archivieren: die Notizbücher John Ruskins und die zuvor noch nie gezeigte Sammlung der Fotografien des Bewohners eines Arbeiterviertels der Stadt, das an die Giardini der Biennale angrenzt. In beiden bekundet sich die Überzeugung von der kognitiven Qualität des Bildes als Erkenntnismittel, und beide entstammen einer vergleichbaren ethischen Selbstverpflichtung auf ein bildliches Festhalten des Gewebes einer Stadt, die dessen Wahrheit im auf Vollständigkeit bedachten Erfassen ihrer Minutien, den verborgenen Einzelheiten, erblickt. Schon in seinem viel diskutierten und ausgezeichneten Projekt Migropolis hatte sich Wolfgang Scheppe mit der Stadt Venedig als exemplarischem Prototyp für die Eskalation der globalisierten Stadt beschäftigt. Erscheint in Zusammenarbeit mit dem British Council im Rahmen der Architektur-Biennale in Venedig im Britischen Pavillon, 29.8.-21.11.2010
